    Graduate Programs

    Eligibility

    International applicants must meet the nationality, language proficiency, and academic requirements for the program to which they are applying.
    Applicants may apply to a department even if their previous major is different from the department they wish to enter. However, some departments may have additional requirements.

    Period of Study

    • Master’s Program
      4 semesters (2 years)
    • Doctoral Program
      4 semesters (2 years)
    • Combined Master’s-Doctoral Program
      8 semesters (4 years)

    Academic Requirements

    • Master’s Program
      Applicants must hold, or expect to obtain, a bachelor’s degree.
    • Doctoral Program
      Applicants must hold, or expect to obtain, a master’s degree.
    • Combined Master’s-Doctoral Program
      Applicants must hold, or expect to obtain, a bachelor’s degree.
    * Applicants who are expected to graduate must obtain the required degree before the start of the semester. Failure to obtain the degree will result in cancellation of admission.

    Nationality & Language Requirements

    • Nationality Requirements
      Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:
      • Condition 1: The applicant and both parents are foreign nationals.
      • Condition 2: The applicant is a foreign national who has completed all levels of education equivalent to elementary school, middle school, high school, and university outside Korea.
    • Language Requirements
      Applicants must be able to take courses in Korean or English and meet the language proficiency requirements specified by the department.

    Transfer Admission

    Transfer applicants must meet the same nationality and language requirements as new applicants:
    • Have completed, or expect to complete, at least one semester at a regular graduate school in Korea or abroad, excluding specialized graduate schools.
    • Have earned, or expect to earn, at least 6 credits in major-related courses recognized by the department to which they are applying.

    Joint Research Institute Program

    The Joint Research Institute Program is designed for students who conduct joint research with JBNU and a partner research institute or industry organization. Applicants must consult with the relevant department and partner institution before applying.
    Applicants must also meet all nationality, language, and academic requirements for new admission and satisfy the following conditions:
    • Be recommended by the head of the partner institution.
    • Complete prior consultation with the relevant department before submitting the application.
