Professor Jin-Ha Choi was appointed at Jeonbuk National University in March 2021. His primary research field involves integrating nano-bio materials into the biomedical engineering to develop early diagnostics and effective therapies. Noble metals such as gold and silver exhibit various optical and electromagnetic properties when fabricated into nano-materials using the plasmonic effect on their surfaces. Applying these plasmonic nanomaterials to the measurement of biomaterials enables the development of highly sensitive biosensors for early diagnostics. Furthermore, by incorporating various drugs, including genes, into nanomaterials, the development of smart nanotherapeutics seems promising.
His recent focus lies in the sensitive biosensor development utilizing CRISPR gene-editing technology and the effective development of nanotherapeutics. To achieve this, he conducts research that maximizes diagnostic and therapeutic effects by incorporating the unique properties of various nanomaterials into CRISPR gene-editing techniques. Additionally, he is interested in developing in vitro models using stem cells, combining them with nanosensors to measure real-time biosignals. Such research is expected to be applied as a drug development platform that can replace experimental animals. Currently, he is recruiting master's and doctoral students who are interested in the field of nanobiomedicine.
